About the Music Teacher

My name is (Ms.) Martie Mutz. I have been the music educator here at Porters Point School for 36 years! I received a Bachelor of Science in Music from Hartwick College and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. My instrument concentration is pipe organ, although I also play piano, flute, recorder, and timpani. My music training includes certification in
Orff-Schulwerk, which is an approach to teaching music to children developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman t
o build musicianship in every learner through the integration of music, movement, speech, and drama. I was first exposed to this approach when I was in fifth grade, and it has been a continual pursuit of mine to keep current with the approach. I plan to attend the American Orff Schulwerk Association National Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November, 2023!!  I am a member of the Berkshire-Hudson Valley American Orff-Schulwerk Association based in Albany, New York.

I am happily married with two grown children and live in Burlington, Vermont. I am a proud grandmother, too! I love being active and so I take walks with my family, as well as rollerblade, bike and ski. I also enjoy working out at Jazzercize! Staying healthy is important to me, as it takes a lot of energy to teach music. I am excited to share lots of new ideas in my music classroom this school year. I love to learn something new every day!  I believe I have the best job in the world!
